CARDIFF Philharmonic Orchestra starts its sensational new season in style this week with a spectacular concert at St David's Hall.
The evening will feature Saint Saëns' hugely popular Organ Symphony – the most famous work written for organ and large orchestra. Jeffrey Howard will bring its unmistakable sound to life as organ soloist.
Opening the show is Wagner's monumental overture to his opera Die Meistersinger (Prelude to Act I). Those captivating sounds will then give way to Franz Liszt's Piano Concerto No.1 in E Flat, led by soloist Alexander Ullman. Liszt was the piano virtuoso of the 19th century. Handsome and charismatic, it is said that women would swoon at the mere sight of him! His larger than life personality is perfectly embodied in Ullman's immaculate playing.
