A dynamic light installation in the water surrounding Penarth Pier commissioned by Ffotogallery and The Washington Gallery. This visually stunning landscape intervention is the closing event to Ffotogallery’s Vision On season. It will highlight the ‘Save the Penarth Pavilion Campaign’ and celebrate its 80th Birthday.

Ffosfforescence is the first work from Bread - a new collaboration between Bristol based artists Ruth Essex and David Boultbee which aims to use light to articulate hidden spaces and shadows of familiar public landmarks.

The work will be built with the help of volunteers from the local community and experts from Dorkbot Bristol who will both assist in the construction of the work and transport the glowing orbs through the town to the pier. For those of you just wanting to watch, you can view the work being assembled from 4pm, and it will reach its dramatic climax with the tide coming in, around 8pm.

The Pier Celebrations will kick off with a reception at the Kymin at 5pm to celebrate the 80th Birthday for the Penarth Pavilion followed by drinks between 6:30pm and 7:15 pm at Turner House Gallery. We will then wander down to the pier to watch the tide change the installation.
