Robben Ford is one of the premiere electric guitarists today, particularly known for his blues playing as well as his ability to be comfortable in a variety of musical contexts. A four-time Grammy nominee, he has played with artists as diverse as Joni Mitchell, Jimmy Witherspoon, Miles Davis, George Harrison, Phil Lesh, Bonnie Raitt, Claus Ogerman, Michael McDonald and many, many others.
Ford was born in 1951 at Woodlake, California and raised in Ukiah and began taking guitar lessons at the age of 13. Having had a widely recognized, respected and loved career since 1969, Ford signed to the Concord Jazz label in 2002 and released Blue Moon that same year, followed by Keep On Running in 2003 and his latest album Truth in 2007.
On his latest release, Ford speaks the truth…not just with the sound of his guitar, but with the vision behind his music as he ventures deep into the blues with aggressive licks, direct and honest vocals and an uncharacteristic, yet appealing, rough edge. Truth presents the blues as it is today; in a powerful setting only a master veteran like Ford could envision, the guitar solos are meaningful and have never been more expressive or exciting.
