Three local artists depict their view of Pembrokeshire’s coastline in an exhibition ’Pembrokeshire Through Different Eyes’. The artists all have different training backgrounds and produce work from different standpoints.

Anne Kerr grew up in a coastal village in Pembrokeshire. Having access to the coast has always been important to Anne, but this became all the more apparent while studying art therapies at University in Derby, a land locked county.
Now settled back in Pembrokeshire with her family Anne draws her inspiration from nature, particularly the raw aspect of the Pembrokeshire coastline: the way in which the sea shapes the land and how the clarity of light magnifies the colours, combined with the texture of well-weathered salty land. Her response to the landscape from an art therapies perspective is apparent and using colour and texture in ’any way that goes’ is what excites Anne to paint - with an ever changing pallet of materials that in turn make for an ever transforming style.

Originally trained as an architect, Ian McDonald has worked for the past 15 years in the UK, Germany and India.  An architect’s eye was discernible in his first series of limited-edition black & white prints, striking pen & ink depictions of Pembrokeshire scenes, comprising of views of ‘extraordinary buildings discovered in ordinary locations’.
Ian’s most recent images are vivid screen-prints of Pembrokeshire’s coastline.  Their design and vibrant colours reflect the influence both of the traditional painted miniatures of India and its contemporary silkscreen prints. Since last year, he has been working on more prints, concentrating on the ancient castles and churches of the county - and these form the subjects of this second series of Pembrokeshire prints.

Maggie Brown is a landscape artist trained at the Winchester school of Art, but having worked in design for many years much of her skills are also self taught. A move to Pembrokeshire in 2004 has inspired Maggie, and enabled her to look at her paintings with a fresh eye. For this exhibition Maggie has adapted her practice to use materials to represent the landscape, combining her love of nature, the landscape and the elements, with the exploration of surface pattern and texture.

You are welcome to  come and meet the artists at an evening preview on Friday 23rd May from 5-8pm. The exhibition continues until 20th June. See www.coteriedesign.com for more information on this and other exhibitions.
