Based on a 12th century Sufi fable by Farid Ud-Din Attar, all the birds in the universe gather to discuss how they will find their King. They know his name is Simurgh. They know he lives in a far-away land. They also know the path along the way is treacherous. Their guide, the Hooopoe warns them ‘Do not imagine that the journey is short: and one must have the heart of a lion to follow this unusual road, for it is very long and the sea is deep’. In a journey that will test their strength, will and determination, the birds travel through seven valleys to finally reach their King.
In a tale of spirit and endurance, told with music, singing, dance and drama, we are reminded of the power of the imagination to help us overcome adverse conditions.
