From Queen Victoria to your own…

As part of Powysland Museum’s newest exhibition: “Alexandra, Princess and Queen”, the museum is holding a Family History Evening together with Catherine Richards of Powys Archives.

Princess Alexandra was the oldest daughter of King Christian IX of Denmark. He became known as the “Grandfather of Europe” as his children and grandchildren either married into other European royal families or were appointed heads of states themselves. By marrying Edward, Prince of Wales Alexandra became related to the “Grandmother of Europe” - Queen Victoria, whose children and grandchildren were likewise involved with the royal families on the Continent.

The evening will begin with a short introduction to the royal family connections at the time of Queen Victoria, it will then continue with a presentation of the different tools available to help people trace their ancestors and finally there will be an opportunity to get help and advice creating your own family tree.

This is the first lecture relating to the exhibition “Alexandra, Princess and Queen” – other lectures during the summer will include topics on Early Photography and The Queen Alexandra Royal Army Nursing Corps.
