Soft Hearted Scientists have always attracted critical praise. Word Magazine loved their last LP Scarecrow Smiles so much they put a track on their covermount CD and featured the band in their lead reviews that month.

Hipster website Drowned in Sound was also full of praise; "for what is essentially a collection of demos, this is an incredibly cohesive album - it’s almost like a symphony at points."
