The University Orchestra presents a performance of Tchaikovsky’s most loved symphony depicting the composer’s lyrical journey from tragedy to triumph.  In the first half, we welcome back internationally-renowned pianist and Bangor University Honorary Fellow Sholto Kynoch to perform Beethoven’s magnificent Third Piano Concerto: an opportunity to showcase Pontio’s brand new Steinway grand piano.

By way of contrast, the concert opens with a remarkably varied sequence of 20th-century masterpieces, including Ligeti’s rarely-performed Atmosphères (1961), familiar from the soundtrack to 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Electroacoustic Wales - Manuella Blackburn

Electroacoustic Wales - Manuella Blackburn

Manuella Blackburn
Reichel Hall, Ffriddoedd Site, Bangor University

Electroacoustic WALES welcome guest composer Manuella Blackburn for a concert of uniquely compelling spatial sonic art.

Blackburn is one of an exciting new generation of British electroacoustic music composers whose work is quickly gathering a considerable international following. Her music is characterised by an astonishing variety of ‘found sounds’ – kitchen appliances, electric guitar, electrical switches, Peruvian percussion and more. These are woven together with astonishing detail and intricate narratives by Blackburn’s characteristic brand of high-energy musical dynamism.

“I cannot overstate just how exciting and refreshing this music is.” Stuart Marshall, The Sound Projector.
