Thursday 4 February - Ucheldre Repertory Company

The Company meets Tuesday and Thursday. Currently in rehearsal … ’Not Now Darling’ by Ray Cooney & John Chapman for performances 18, 19, 20 February. New members always welcome.

Friday 5 February - Rhwng: the Point Between

Rhwng will feature a special performance by Eric Maddern, who takes a provocative look at the malady that afflicts and the remedy that might heal, all threaded around the story of the bee.

He lightheartedly gets to the heart of the matter by weaving together a vibrant web of dynamic songs, timeless wisdom tales, sexy poetry, remarkable prophecy and chat with bees.

He reveals that what the bees know is what we must all learn if we are to ‘take the greatest stride of soul we ever took’ and rise to the challenge of our epoch-changing times.

Jacquie Myrtle leads these popular art workshops for children.

Saturday 6 February - Iwan Llewelyn-Jones, Romantic Reveries, ’Chopin and The Dance’, ’Schumann The Romantic’

Iwan Llewelyn-Jones’s series of concerts continues with a look at dance music, as he performs some of Frederic Chopin’s sparkling Mazurkas, Polonaises, and Waltzes, alongside Maurice Ravel’s homage to Franz Schubert, the charming ‘Valses nobles et sentimentales’.

Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms provide some time for reflection in their respective Romances and Intermezzi, while Claude Debussy and Alexander Skryabin burst onto the stage - be prepared for some fireworks and epic piano
pyrotechnics.

Sunday 7 February - Ucheldre Acoustic Club

A chance to perform in a quiet environment. Led by Gorwel Owen, the club is open to all abilities, and all non-plugged-in forms of music.

Sunday 7 February - Nicky Spence & Andrew Matthews-Owen

An evening with Classical Brit Nominee Tenor Nicky Spence and awardwinning pianist Andrew Matthews-Owen. The programme includes music by Finzi, Bellini, Tosti, folksongs by Grace Williams and Benjamin Britten, and Alun Hoddinott’s vivid depiction of 5 ancient landmarks on Ynys Môn ’Landscapes’ (words by Emyr Humphreys).

The Ucheldre Music Club is directed by Marian Leeming and meets twice monthly on Mondays. Non-members welcome.

Tuesday 9 February - Exhibition Opening, Ucheldre Craft Fair

Invited craftworkers on Anglesey display their work, including cards, clothes, decoupage, embroidery, paintings, toys, glass, bee and herbal products, and much more. A craftworker will be in the gallery most days, to demonstrate a craft, or to discuss the work on show.

7.30pm.

Free admission. The exhibition runs until Sunday 7 March.

Friday 12 February - Literary Society, Myrrha Stanford-Smith Historical fiction and being published

Myrrha talks about writing historical ficton and getting it published. She is currently working on a trilogy, the first volume of which will be published in June.

Sunday 14 February - Ensemble Cymru, ’Balkan Dances’ with Peryn Clement-Evans (Clarinet), Harvey Davies (Piano), Heather Bills (Cello)

A wonderfully evocative and superbly crafted series of contrasting dances by the Croation-Serbian composer Taj?evi? (1900–84) headlines this programme.

Thursday 18, 19 & 20 February - Ucheldre Repertory Company, ’Not Now Darling’

After last year’s highly successful comedy, Noises Off, the Rep returns with another farcical offering, Not Now Darling by Ray Cooney and John Chapman.

It is set in an elegant West End fur salon where the hilarious permutations and entanglements reach a point of hysteria before everyone gets their just desserts. A truly uproarious farce about the consequences of attempted infidelity.

Saturday 20 February - Opera Course 3

The third in a series of five workshops with leading opera voice coach Marian Bryfdir. Come and see if you have operability by working on excerpts from different operas as part of a chorus with members of Pocket Opera assisting.

The course continues on, 20 March, and 11 April, with the possibility of performing in the chorus of Swansea City Opera’s performance of The Pearl Fishers in the Ucheldre Centre on Saturday 17 April.

Friday 26 February - Anglesey Music Trust

The Trust supports young musicians on the Island by organising events and giving financial grants to children from the Island attending music courses. This concert of soloists and ensembles, singers and instrumentalists, is arranged to give some of the young people an opportunity to share their talent with an audience.

Saturday 27 February - Book Launch: Marianne Jones

Anglesey launch of Ring of Stones by Marianne Jones - an award winning novella exploring issues of language and community in a beautifully written narrative. Free event with refreshments.
