What can we say about James Taylor? The Hammond organ maestro who gave us the beloved Starsky and Hutch theme, Blow Up, and many others. Retraining to be a psychotherapist hasn’t hindered the power of Taylor’s delivery and place as one of the innovators of the Acid Jazz scene. The release of single Blow Up in 1985 gained the attention of the late John Peel who championed it with the song appearing three years running on Peel’s seminal Festive 50 chart.
The funk guru soon began work on mini album, Mission Impossible, released in 1986 which included much acclaimed covers of the famous 60s film themes, Mission Impossible, Goldfinger and Mrs Robinson. By the time 3rd album, The Money Spyder, was released in 1987 the band’s attentions were being drawn more to the live scene, gaining a loyal fanbase along the way. It is their attention to live shows and relationship with this fans that has made sure JTQ have enjoyed a longevity rare in today’s music biz. Not forgetting some real soulful and downright funky tunes to boot!
