Following a highly successful three and a half year run and over 1000 performances at the Prince Edward Theatre in London’s West End, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s award-winning musical Mary Poppins embarks on a major international tour.
Mary Poppins will open at the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff on 11th March 2009 where it plays until 18th April 2009. Tickets for Mary Poppins at the WMC will be on sale soon. For more information and to leave contact details for when tickets go on sale please logon to www.wmc.org.uk or call 08700 40 2000.
Cardiff is one of only five British dates the show can play and is the only Welsh date as the show is scheduled to open overseas in late Summer 2009.
Wales Millennium Centre’s Arts & Audience Development Director Fiona Allan explains, “We are thrilled to be working with Cameron Mackintosh for the third time on this delightful production of MARY POPPINS. Miss Saigon and My Fair Lady both proved extremely successful here and I’m sure this award winning musical will appeal to our audience.”
Full casting will be announced soon.
Mary Poppins includes many of the original songs from the film with music and lyrics by Richard M Sherman and Robert B Sherman. The new stage production has been created, in collaboration with Cameron Mackintosh, by Oscar-winning screenwriter Julian Fellowes who has written the book, and the Olivier award-winning British team of George Stiles and Anthony Drewe who have written the new songs and additional music and lyrics.
