Gwanwyn Festival

May 2008 sees the second running of the Gwanwyn Festival of Arts and Creativity for older people in Wales.

The festival is run by Age Concern Cymru with support from a variety of other organisations like the Welsh Assembly Government, Arts Council of Wales, Film Agency of Wales, BBC, Rubicon Dance, Cadw and NIACE Dysgu Cymru.

Though the festival takes place during the month of May the planning and preparation for many of the participating events has already started. Last year’s festival featured a wide range of creative activity and there is much more to come this year as a result of a growing conviction by all involved that participation in artistic and creative activity brings real benefits for the health and wellbeing of older people.

A visit to www.gwanwyn.org.uk will give you some inspiration if you need it. If your group or organisation would like to consider running an event that could be a part of Gwanwyn, or if you would just like to find out more about the festival, then contact Festival Development officer Phil Thomas at Age Concern Cymru (02920) 431540 or email Philip.thomas@accymru.org.uk.

A promotional DVD about the festival is now available. A free copy is yours for the asking. This year events range from small scale local events to professional productions in some of Wales’ premier venues and everywhere in between. There will be lots to see and plenty of opportunities to ‘have a go’.
