Act 1, Scene 1
Thunder and Lightning. Enter three Witches
Shakespeare’s play begins and ends in war, the turbulence of Macbeth’s inner life mirrored by the elements. It is a domestic tragedy elevated to myth by the power of Shakespeare’s poetic imagination, an epic love story where the natural, the unnatural and the supernatural all play a part.
Owen Teale returns to Clwyd Theatr Cymru to play Macbeth. He won a Tony Award for A Doll’s House on Broadway and has starred at the RSC and National Theatre.
Lady Macbeth is played by Vivien Parry, who was the lead in Mamma Mia! In the West End, and acclaimed by New York critics in the Clwyd Theatr Cymru production of Memory.
Directed by Terry Hands.
